Project Overview

Design Requirements:

We had a meeting with our client and they gave us their requirements for this machine. They are as follows:

  1. AbleNet button had to be used to activate at least one critical component of the device (thus the project needed an auxiliary connection).

  2. Ball launching device (motor or lever arm)

  3. Mobile

  4. Rechargable

From these requirements we were able to come up with prototypes and CAD Models.

Client:

We were engineering for the Special Education Department at Broomfield Heights Middle School, home of the falcons. One of the special education teachers along with the physical education teacher wanted  students with motor and mental disabilities the ability to participate in gym class. They have many students in this program, but the student who would be using the machine most right now has limited motor abilities and slight visual impairment.

CAD 2.png

This is the final CAD model. As you can see, the ball is released by the trapdoor falls down the ramp then catches speed going over the wheel before exiting the machine.

This was our first Pretotype made of construction paper and tape. The next pretotype is to the right.

This is the second pretotype. We originally thought having two wheels spinning would be the best option.

From these two pretotypes we were able to come up with a CAD Model of what we wanted the machine to look like. In this model, there are 2 wheels attached to one motor.
